Why you need piped medical gases: 1 ) Typical gas savings of at least £1,000 per annum for an average usage practice. Gas in larger cylinders is far cheaper. Fewer cylinders = a reduction in cylinder rental costs. Fewer cylinders = a reduction in delivery charges. 2) Health & Safety  Reduced fire risk as cylinders can be stored outside, away from the working environment. Reduction in the amount of manual handling of heavy cylinders. 3) Space saving One 'J' size oxygen cylinder holds the equivalent of ten 'E' size cylinders. Wall mounted anaesthetic machines can be used, saving even more floor space. Typically 3x J size oxygen and 2x G size nitrous oxide cylinders are required. An E size oxygen cylinder contains 680 litres of oxygen. A J size cylinder contains 6800 litres of oxygen; 10 times the capacity, yet costs less than twice as much to rent and just over twice as much refill.
